Coastal Veterinary Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of veterinary acupuncture and animal chiropractic care to our list of services available by appointment with Dr. Cone, and acupuncture with Dr. Castner.

We believe in the integration of traditional Chinese veterinary medicine (using acupuncture, Chinese herbs, nutrution) and conventional or Western veterinary medical care. The core principle of Chinese medical therapy and chiropractic is to balance the body and let animals heal themselves.

General conditions in dogs and cats that may be treated with acupuncture and chiropractic:

- Musculoskeletal problems such as arthritis, inter-vertebral disc disease, injuries

- Skin problems

- Gastrointestinal problems

- Epilepsy

- Geriatric health support (kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, comfort and quality of life)

- Maintain health and peak performance in active and working animals

   Length and frequency of acupuncture or chiropractic visits depends on the condition of the patient.

   In general, most sessions take 45-60 minutes and most patients require at least 4-8 sessions before maximum benefits are observed (usually sessions are scheduled every 1-3 weeks). Once results have been achieved, most patients can be maintained with sessions every 1-3 months.

    We have observed that patients find the insertion of acupuncture needles virtually painless and seem to enjoy the gentle chiropractic techniques.
